Author: John Abraham | Filed under: GSM | CDMA | 3G Monday, March 8th, 2010

A plan that offers Rollover of unused talk time to a Quarter for its Enterprise Customers

New Delhi, March 08, 2010: TATA DOCOMO, the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices Limited, today launched a tariff plan for its enterprise customers called ‘Rollover Plan’ (RO Plan). Under the RO plan, customers pay by the month and enjoy the facility of carrying forward their unused free talk time and SMS for a period of 3 months.

Rollover plan creates a new paradigm in the telecom industry where the month gets extended to 90 days. This is  in line with TATA Teleservices DNA of creating unique value proposition for its customers like Pay Per Second, Pay Per Call and NOW ‘Rollover Plan’.

Speaking on the launch, Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Teleservices Limited, said, “TTSL has always been the undisputed leader by launching innovative tariff concepts like Pay Per Second & Pay Per Call in the Indian telecom industry and today I am proud to say that we are launching yet another industry first—The ROLLOVER Plan, exclusively for our Tata DOCOMO Enterprise Customers.”

“Innovation in tariff alone doesn’t give any operator a runaway success—it is understanding the nuances of customer usage patterns and integrating customer needs and value propositions into our product strategy that are key to a sustainable business model. Taking the first mover advantage, we have consolidated an aggressive proposition that offers transparent tariff along with the facility of carrying forward of unused free usage for a period of 3 months—this feature will definitely benefit and interest our enterprise customers,” Mr Sardana further added.

Under the offer, there are four variants of plans available RO 500, RO 799, RO 1000 and RO 1099 available at a monthly rental of Rs 500, Rs. 799, Rs. 1000 and Rs. 1099 respectively.

The other highlight of the plan is that it extends the concept of ‘per-second’ billing. It also makes available the free usage in seconds. For example the RO 1099, offers 150000 seconds of free local calls and 72000 seconds of free STD calls per month thus offering its customers with complete transparency and unmatched benefits. The customers can carry forward the accumulated unused free talk time and free SMS each month, for a period of three consecutive months. The roll over benefit will be applicable for 8 consecutive cycles with each cycle comprising of 3 months.

Hyderabad: March 3, 2010: Tata Teleservices Limited, India’s fastest-growing pan-India dual-technology telecom service provider, has announced a path-breaking ‘Customer Service Charter’ for Tata Indicom customers, under which the company guarantees pre-determined levels of service and support—and includes ‘Compensation Clauses’ to pay back customers if the set service levels are not met. The Customer Service Charter, a first-of-its-kind endeavor in the Indian telecom industry, is aimed at ensuring that customer service emerges as a key differentiator for telecom operators. The Charter focuses on several identified aspects of customer interaction, with the larger objective of creating world-class service standards and benchmarks. The Charter will fulfill customer commitments—five salient propositions have been identified by Tata Teleservices Limited to begin with—and Compensation Clauses have been built in, wherein the company will pay back customers if pre-set service levels on the chosen parameters are not met.

Paying a tribute to the Tata Group Founder at the launch of the Customer Service Charter, Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing Director of Tata Teleservices Limited, said, “On the occasion of our Group’s Founder Day, we pledge to give every customer his rightful due. Sir JN Tata was a visionary who dared to think beyond his time, and his dynamic legacy still inspires us to pursue the highest standards of excellence in every endeavor. The introduction of this Customer Service Charter, therefore, is a matter of immense pride for us, and a tremendous responsibility for us to shoulder—as we will be putting our very business behind our commitment to our customers.”

“The Charter is a reaffirmation of TTSL’s commitment to the person who makes the biggest difference to our lives—the Customer. At the Tata Group, we strongly believe that it is our solemn duty to do everything within our competency to give customers a quality network experience and state-of-art service and support. This Charter, the first-ever in the history of Indian telecoms, has been conceived to achieve these objectives with a promise to compensate customers if we don’t live up to our commitments,” Mr. Pankaj Sethi, President, Corporate Services, Tata Teleservices Limited, said.

The Customer Service Charter includes five customer commitments, namely The Bill Dispute Commitment, The Call Drop Commitment, The Handset Replacement Commitment, The VAS Commitment and The Call-Back Commitment.

  • The Bill Dispute Commitment offers resolution of every bill dispute within three working days, failing which TTSL will compensate its customers with Rs 25 for every additional day taken to resolve the complaint;
  • The Call Drop Commitment promises call drops less than the 1.5 per cent of total calls made in a month, failing which the company will refund 2.5% of the customer’s last billed amount;
  • The Handset Replacement Commitment ensures that loaner handsets will be issued to customers in case the handset cannot be repaired over the counter at TTSL’s I-Care Centre;
  • The VAS Commitment offers free trial of any chosen Value-Added Service, before buying the product; and
  • The Call-Back Commitment promises that call centers will be accessible to customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week and that calls will be answered within 90 seconds, failing which the company will call the customer back within two hours.

Author: John Abraham | Filed under: GSM | CDMA | 3G, News | Featured | Hot Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Nokia today unveiled the new addition to its Eseries range, Nokia E72, a device tailor-made for business and personal messaging. Nokia’s latest full QWERTY smartphone brings a rich mobile email experience right out of the box, making it the ideal device for people who want to be productive in both their personal and professional lives. The Nokia E72 comes with Nokia’s push consumer email service, Nokia Messaging and onboard clients for Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler. The Nokia E72 will be available in the Indian market 2 colors – Zodium Black and Topaz Brown at an MRP of Rs. 22989/- only.

The Nokia E72 builds on the formula from Nokia’s most successful QWERTY keyboard device, the Nokia E71, and adds important new functionality such as desktop-like email experiences. Accessing popular accounts such as Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, Ovi Mail and thousands of other email service providers is simple through improved on-device email setup, with the same easy to use UI integrating all of the owner’s corporate email accounts as well.

On the launch Mr. Vineet Taneja, Marketing Director, Nokia India said, “Today consumers are looking for solutions that give them flexibility to manage time in a way that they can juggle and balance both work and life. They are looking for ways to connect with their friends and peers while on the go which has led to proliferation of email on mobile. According to a research conducted by Nokia, globally people are spending an average of five full days per year – equivalent to a full work week – responding to emails. Close to half of the consumers (46 percent) choose email over voice or text to send and receive important information.”

He further added, “With the latest Nokia E72, consumers will be able to accommodate multiple work and personal email accounts and, with separate profiles for work and play, which will allow people to be flexible when it comes to choosing how, when, where and who to respond to.”

Nokia E72 review

Author: John Abraham | Filed under: GSM | CDMA | 3G, News | Featured | Hot Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Nokia E72 is one of those handsets everybody is talking about long before their release. There may be nothing much to talk about – after all everyone knows what to expect of the Eseries and they have never let us down. But still, savoring the next batch of Eseries steel is always a pleasure.

The Finns keep feeding business ammo to the market and there’s nothing out of the usual at first sight. We already tasted the new Eseries generation and the E52 and E55 were the usual good healthy meals. The E72 though needs to be nothing short of delicious.

There’s no need to tell you the Nokia E72 walks and talks business. The big one though has greater responsibility to carry. We guess the E72 will not fear being judged against the best messengers in its class. But it will certainly look back to a haunting shadow within its own family. The Nokia E72 can certainly go where the E71 would not venture. But it’s not only the equipment (of which the E72 has aplenty) that makes a winner.

Key features:

  • Quad-band GSM support
  • 3G with HSDPA 10.2Mbps and HSUPA 2Mbps
  • Landscape 2.36″ 16M-color display of QVGA resolution
  • Comfortable full QWERTY keypad
  • Optical trackpad on the D-pad
  • Symbian 9.3 OS, S60 UI with FP2
  • 600 MHz ARM 11 CPU and 128 MB of SDRAM
  • 5 megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, UPnP technology, DLNA support
  • Built-in GPS receiver, A-GPS support, digital compass
  • Accelerometer for turn-to-mute
  • 250 MB of internal memory, microSD expansion, ships with a 4GB card
  • Standard 3.5mm audio jack
  • Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support and microUSB v2.0
  • FM radio with RDS
  • Remote Wipe
  • Great battery life
  • Office document editor (including MS Office 2007)
  • User-friendly Mode Switch for swapping two homescreen setups
  • Smart dialing
  • Full Flash support
  • Great audio output quality
  • Lifetime Nokia Messaging subscription

    Main disadvantages:

  • Optical trackpad is not as handy as we’d like
  • Limited camera features, no geotagging, video recording maxes out at VGA@15fps
  • No DivX or XviD support (can be enabled, possibly requiring a purchase)
  • No TV-out functionality
  • No dedicated camera key (trackpad compensates for that)
  • Poor loudspeaker performance

Eseries are always trying to get more skills on their resume. But the one that’s supposed to be the next big thing in its class is really pushing it. Nokia didn’t have to try and experiment with the E72. Build muscle on the E71 was their main objective. And by the looks of it they did more than well. The E72 promises richer experience and superior skill. But it will still be expected to deliver more than the sum of its parts if it wants to prove anything to the standard-setting E71.

The Eseries spirit is all there – and we guess in-house competition is always in the picture. The E72 is bold and impressive, but manages to keep its cool too, as befits a conservative business handset. Armed and dangerous or polite and elaborate – the E72 will be whatever you want it to be. So, make up your mind, and take the jump. We’re unboxing and feeling the cold Eseries steel in our hands.
